Jameel Sylvia, MPA, NRP, is an EMS Product Manager with Ascend Learning’s Public Safety Group, a Jones and Bartlett Learning brand, where he leads the strategic vision, development, and lifecycle management of EMS education products used nationwide. In this role, he collaborates with cross-functional teams across editorial, design, technology, and marketing to deliver evidence-based, market-responsive solutions that support EMS educators and clinicians.
Jameel previously served as Director of Paramedic Programs at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Center for Prehospital Care, where he oversaw the first accredited paramedic education program in the nation, managed a multimillion-dollar budget, led curriculum innovation, and maintained strategic clinical partnerships. His academic leadership focused heavily on curriculum quality, faculty development, behavioral health education, and student success across didactic, lab, and clinical environments.
His background also includes serving as a Paramedic Program Director in Massachusetts, Director of EMS and Education for a Rhode Island fire department, and Quality Improvement Officer and EMS Supervisor for Brown University EMS. Clinically, Jameel spent over a decade as a firefighter and paramedic, progressing through leadership roles including EMS Lieutenant and Captain. He has also founded and operated a medical training and consulting company with a strong record of success in National Registry exam preparation and continuing education.
Jameel holds a Master of Public Administration in Fire and Emergency Services from Anna Maria College and is working to pursue a Doctor of Education. His scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publication on behavioral health education in paramedic training. He brings a systems-level perspective that bridges frontline EMS practice, academic leadership, and educational product strategy.
