Michael Redlener, MD, FAEMS, Fire Department of New YorkDeputy Medical DirectorMichael Redlener, MD, FAEMS is the Division 3 Deputy Medical Director for the Fire Department of the City of New York. He currently serves as the Chair of the Innovations and Research Committee for the State EMS Council, as well as the Immediate Past President of the National EMS Quality Alliance (NEMSQA). He is a past chair of the NAEMSP Quality and Safety Committee and the Co-Founder of the NAEMSP Quality and Safety Course which is transforming the approach to quality improvement in the EMS community. With a focus on systems of care and quality improvement, he has worked to improve the function of care delivery in trauma and disaster preparedness, cardiac care and stroke across the continuum of care. He has a passion for creating high-value, evidence-based, patient-centered quality measures that give EMS agencies and organizations the tools to improve care for patients. Agentic AI, large language models and algorithms, drones and driverless vehicles are transforming the world. As we navigate this uncertain time, there is huge potential to enhance the care that EMS canprovide, yet real risk to blur the boundaries of safe and effective care. Naviagting this tension will determine the future of EMS in New York State. Will we harness this technology to improve patient and clinician care and expereince? Or will we lose our way - too wary to change or too trusting of technologic advance? In this talk, we will review the basics of artificial intelligence tools, explore the opportunities, consider the risks, and provide balanced ideas to safely apply these tools to benefit our patients, our agencies, and our communities.
