Name
Basic EMS Field Training Officer Course (Day 3)
Description

The National EMS Management Association’s Emergency Medical Services Field Training and Evaluation Program (EMS-FTEP™) is the gold standard for onboarding new employees. EMS-FTEP™ has been used nationally for over 15 years. Your agency invests significant resources into recruiting and retaining EMTs and paramedics. Preparing them to be successful through a structured field training and evaluation program is critical to ensuring their success and reducing turnover.

The EMS-FTEP™ Basic Field Training Officer (FTO) course is designed to provide the employee and the agency with the greatest possible chance of success by providing a framework that assures employees understand, develop, and demonstrate essential skills and behaviors.

The three-day Basic FTO course will introduce the prospective FTO to the structure, tools, techniques, and concepts of EMS-FTEP™. It will provide instruction in adult learning principles, coaching, evaluation, giving feedback, and documenting trainee performance using EMS-FTEP™ tools. This includes Standardized Evaluation Guidelines, Recruit Training Manual, and Daily Observation Reports.

This class is three days: November 10, 11, 12, 2025.

Breanne Cook, NRPBreanne Cook has worked in EMS since 2007 and is a New Jersey and Nationally Registered Paramedic. She currently serves as the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) Coordinator for RWJBarnabas Health Mobile Health, part of New Jersey’s largest academic health system, where she oversees the administration, standardization, and continued development of FTEP across a large, multi-regional EMS system. Her experience includes frontline EMS operations, field training, clinical education, provider development, remediation, and program improvement. In her current role, she works closely with FTOs, new providers, operational leaders, and educators to build training practices that are consistent and objective while remaining practical for the realities of field EMS. She is also a primary instructor for the NEMSMA Field Training and Evaluation Program. Despite her administrative and educational roles, Breanne remains connected to field EMS and believes strongly that effective field training programs must work not only on paper, but on the street. Her approach to FTEP is grounded in supporting FTOs as both clinicians and leaders, developing new providers without lowering expectations, and creating evaluation systems that are fair, defensible, and useful. Outside of EMS, Breanne’s most important role is being a mom. She brings that same perspective on mentorship, accountability, growth, and meeting people where they are to her work with FTOs and developing providers.Breanne Cook, NRP
