Doug is currently employed by Clarkson University as its first Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). With over 30 years of EMS experience, his passion for EMS education started in 1992 when his college advisor encouraged him to become an instructor for every course he took. After graduating from SUNY Cortland with a bachelor’s in health science, he continued to instruct EMS courses in Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, EMS leadership programs and law enforcement. His career also included a distinguished 20 years as a New York State Trooper. Doug was responsible for equipping all the New York State Troop vehicles with AEDs in 2007 and was instrumental in training over 6,500 employees in CPR and AED use that year. Other contributions to the state police included building a new forty-hour EMS program for the trooper academy and training their tactical teams in EMS for over 10 years. He also served eight years in a special Emergency Management position as a Sergeant that oversees the dismantling of clandestine drug labs. After retiring in the Spring of 2022, he moved on to better utilize his EMS expertise at Clarkson University. While maintaining his nationally registered paramedic skills on several local ambulance services in the region, he also continues his EMS ambitions by leading E5 Support Services, LLC. E5 has been supporting local ambulance agencies in staffing, training, and consulting for over 15 years. Doug is happily married for the past 24 years and resides on a small farm in Canton, NY with nearly 40 animals!
