Description

For more than two decades, the approach to decontaminating patients exposed to hazardous materials has remained largely unchanged—but it’s time to rethink our methods. We’ve all heard the phrase “the solution to pollution is dilution,” and many providers still believe a hazmat patient shouldn’t step into an ambulance unless they’re “naked and wet.” But is that really a practical or effective strategy for modern EMS?

This course is designed to equip EMS personnel with the tools to assess hazardous materials incidents, prioritize responder safety, and identify the appropriate resources for decontamination and medical care. We'll explore streamlined, efficient decon processes that protect both providers and patients—often with minimal equipment.

Class discussions will cover hazard assessment, PPE considerations, types of decontamination, and how to apply these techniques in real-world EMS scenarios.
