Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals are uniquely positioned to drive meaningful policy change—but doing so requires moving beyond frustration and into action. This half-day course brings together leading voices in EMS policy and advocacy to empower participants with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to advocate to develop effective evidence-based advocacy for their profession at the local, state, and national levels.
Whether you're speaking out for your agency, championing essential service designation, or even considering a run for office, this session will prepare you to be a strategic advocate for EMS. Participants will explore the different types of advocacy and lobbying, the inner workings of the legislative and regulatory process, and the power of evidence-based messaging.
You'll learn how to identify and engage key stakeholders, build sustainable advocacy initiatives, and develop campaigns that influence public policy and funding. Real-world case studies—from grassroots organizing to serving as an elected official—will provide insight into how EMS professionals have successfully moved the needle on critical issues like reimbursement, workforce shortages, mental health, and systems of care.
