In the fast-paced world of Emergency Medical Services, great leaders aren’t defined solely by their technical knowledge or clinical skills—they’re defined by how they understand, connect, and communicate with others. This session explores the balance between Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) as critical tools in EMS leadership, advocacy, and patient care. Using relatable, field-based examples, participants will learn how EQ impacts decision-making, teamwork, and trust, while IQ informs strategy, analysis, and clinical judgment. Just as EMS providers rely on both IV and IO access depending on the situation, effective leaders must know when to lead with emotional awareness and when to lean on intellect.
