Description
This presentation delves into the burgeoning issue of micro-mobility trauma, specifically collisions involving e-scooters and e-bikes, and their direct impact on EMS. We will analyze the increasing frequency of these calls, the specific injury patterns we encounter, and the unique assessment and treatment challenges they present in the field. Data analysis will highlight the impact on EMS resources and the urgent need for adapted training. We will discuss factors contributing to these incidents, including urban infrastructure, rider behavior, and potential policy gaps. We will also explore strategies for improving scene safety and patient stabilization in these environments. Importantly, we will address: Should we refine our assessment and treatment protocols to effectively manage these unique trauma patients? How do we advocate for safer infrastructure and rider education to reduce these incidents? And, what role can EMS play in data collection and policy advocacy to improve patient outcomes and system efficiency? We will explore practical, field-relevant solutions to improve our response to this evolving patient population. Core - Trauma
